When I try to use WAIS, I never get farther than the error message that says I
need WLIBSOCK.DLL. I cannot find this file. Can someone give me a clue?

Subject: Chameleon SLIP, USR Sportster, no go...

I just purchased the Windows Internet Tour Guide, specifically to get the
Chameleon Sampler.

My environment: Compaq Presario 866DX/2, USR Sportster 14.4 internal.  Works
fine with PCPLUS (DOS), Works (Windows), and WinFax.

I get the carrier when my modem connects to the remote end (Intel 9600EX
hooked to a Xylogics Annex), with the CONNECT 9600... LAPM message, and it
stops.  I don't get the banner from the Annex, much less a prompt to log in.

I've tried numerous variations on the script string:

-n $9$r$r ...

Inc. $r$r ...

etc.  Any suggestions ?  I've successfully connected for SLIP using a packet
driver and NCSA Telnet, with an Intel 9600EX at my end, but since then I've
upgraded my machine, modem, etc, and am using different software.  I'm going
to try using that setup again and see if it works any better...

Greg,

There is a TCP/IP stack vendor called Beame and Whiteside (based in
Canada) that have a package BW-TCP (a la PC-TCP etc).

It has a command called BWTAR that does tar backups to remote devices
on Unix boxes. It's a commercial package though.
